Seniors at Freeman High School took a critical step in the college preparation process when they participated in a college application event.  Les Monroe from EducationQuest presented to seniors how the Financial Aid process works and assisted seniors on how to apply for their Federal Application Student Aide ID number.  Following the financial aid presentation seniors were given time to apply to colleges.  Representatives from University Nebraska Lincoln, University of Nebraska Kearney, Peru State College, Doane University and Southeast Community College were available to help seniors with applications and answer any questions they may have. We had 29 seniors participate. Several students had already applied to colleges and including early applications our seniors have sent out 60 applications to various schools.

College representatives stayed for a mini college fair.  Sophomores and juniors were given the opportunity to visit with the college representatives and learn what some of our local colleges have to offer.  To help promote apply2college day several staff members sported a shirt from their alma mater as well!

The Apply2College Campaign is part of the American College Application Campaign initiative sponsored by the American Council on Education. All states are now participating in the annual program. States that have participated in previous years are finding that as many as 79 percent of students who submit a college application go on to attend college.
