The Career Readiness students have been working extremely hard in preparing for their end of the year project.  This project has most students shaking in their shoes, but it is probably one of the most rewarding experiences that this class has to offer: Job Interviews.

Throughout the last semester, we have been striving for professionalism in all aspects of the career ready student. Learning how to be professional during the career exploration and acquisition process is a skill that will help Freeman Students boost their chances of earning their dream jobs faster and ahead of the rest of this generation of workers.

Students start out with an interest inventory and self-exploration looking for characteristics that they may not know they have in an effort to pair their skills with a potential career where they can flourish. We then spend several weeks on developing those skills, identifying areas of needed improvement, and searching for the right career path.  As a class, they learn how to write a resume, cover letter, apply for jobs, see their strengths, and how they can fit into today’s very competitive job market.  Ultimately, we round off the semester with our Job Interview Project.

Leaders from the community are paired with a student and communicate professionally leading up to the interview day. Students come to school in their finest attire, nerves trembling, and walk into the interview area. Community leaders, as their interviewer, ask questions that allow students to show why they are the best fit for the job. This nerve-wracking experience, is over in around 15 minutes, but it is the best 15 minutes of their future.  Now instead of being nervous and anxious about their first interview, these Freeman students have that one behind them, and a bright future of success ahead of them.

Every year, I look forward to hearing from past students about how much this class helped prepare them for their life after high school. Career Readiness is a vital tool for our Freeman Students and their future success.
