Over the past two weeks, students from Freeman Elementary School have been busy learning the joy of helping others! From November 14 through December 2, students in preschool through 6th grade have been collecting new pajamas for needy children. The pajama donations were coordinated through Scholastic Reading Club, a book retailer who matches a new book donation for each pajama donation, and Pajama Program, which organizes distribution of pajama donations to local charities in order to give kids a safe and comforting bedtime. Early on in the process, a goal of 150 donations was set. Children were told that if their goal was met, they would be treated to a cookies and milk pajama party hosted by the school. After the final count, one hundred sixty-four pajamas were brought in by children, staff, and community members, and another 15 pair were donated by Walmart to help with the cause. This made a total donation of 179 pajamas. Freeman was notified that the school’s pajama drive donations will be staying close by in Lincoln, Nebraska. If you stop by Freeman soon, you may be surprised to see elementary students, and likely some staff members, too, strolling the halls in their own comfy pajamas. And, they’ll be eating cookies and drinking milk to wash them down.
