Nobody from the Beatrice girls’ team will be returning on Saturday, but each participant improved upon their best times.

“We always come into a meet with a goal,” said Beatrice Coach Marian Wallen, “to swim faster than we had before. As coaches, we cannot ask for more than that and we are very proud of how the team performed today.”

The girls’ 400-freestyle relay team just missed qualifying for Saturday’s consolation race. They finished 18th and only the top 16 teams reach Saturday. The team of Taylor Larkins, Maddy Wagner, Mikasa Lierman and Joslyn Schiebur finished with a time of 3:52.36, which blasted their previous best time of 3:59.12.

In the girls 200-freestyle relay race, the Beatrice team of Taylor Larkins, Ainsley Hostetler, Maddy Wagner and Joslyn Schiebur finished 20th with a time of 145.96. That time beat their seed time of 1:47.71 by almost two seconds, but left them short of qualifying for Saturday’s races.

The girls’ 200-medley relay team of Maddy Wagner, Joslyn Schiebur, Mikasa Lierman and Taylor Larkins finished with a time of 2:02.18, which narrowly beat their seed time of 2:02.29. That time was good enough for 23rd in the preliminary race, which left them short of qualifying for Saturday’s races.

In the girls 50-freestyle, Joslyn Schiebur finished with a time of 26.14, which beat her seed time of 26.22. That time was good enough for 23rd place, which left her short of qualifying for Saturday’s races.

“Joslyn has worked hard and has been a strong team leader this year, so we are pleased with her finishing her high school swim career so well,” Wallen said. “She will be greatly missed next year. We will need some of our underclassmen to step up and fill her shoes.”
