The fourth graders have been very busy these past couple of weeks. On February 10th, the 4th grade class hosted a Pioneer School Day here at Freeman. During our day back in time, we imagined our classroom to be a one-room school, with clothing, manners, and subjects to match.

We recited poems that the kids had memorized prior to the day, we played pioneer games, such as rattlesnake, and stickball during recess.  During math we practiced facts on slates, and later hosted a spelling bee. The kids were allowed to bring a snack from home that resembled something the pioneer children may have seen in their own lunch pails.  Our art project was tracing silhouettes of the children’s faces. In the afternoon we tested their muscles by making homemade butter. We even played a little Pioneer Jeopardy with some words used during pioneer times, “privy” would have to be one of the most popular. Overall, it was a very memorable day.
