Kindergartners Enjoy Apple Dishes

Did Johnny Appleseed really wear a pot on his head?  The Freeman Kindergarten classes learned about Johnny Appleseed in September and October and discussed which facts might be real and which might be fantasy.  We also used describing words to tell how apples looked and taste, making two classroom books with our words.

To celebrate all our learning we had an apple party.  Mrs. Marker’s class made applesauce and Mrs. Israelson’s class made apple crisp both from scratch and in crockpots!  The Kindergartners learned to follow recipes as well as the importance of good hygiene when cooking.  Each child got a turn at peeling an apple and pouring in ingredients.  Cranking the apples in the apple peeler was a tougher job than it looked, but amazing how the apple came through it all!  Students enjoyed learning about apples as well as about Johnny Appleseed!
