Freeman Wins Their Invite

The Freeman Invite was organized differently this year with 8 participating teams.  Sterling, Deshler, Pawnee City, Friend, Johnson Brock, Elmwood-Murdock, Diller-Odell, and Freeman were the participating teams.  Each team played 3 pools games with the top two pool teams advancing to the Championship bracket and the bottom two playing in the Consolation Bracket.  Freeman was 3-0 coming out of pool play winning in straight sets against Deshler, Johnson Brock and Friend.  For the first game in the Championship bracket, the Lady Falcons beat the Lady Griffins of Diller-Odell.  For the Championship game, Freeman beat the Lady Eagles of Johnson Brock for the second time of the tournament.

Freeman defeats JB - 25-21, 25-20 - Champ Game
Freeman used a balanced attack to keep the Lady Eagles at bay.  Johnson Brock, many times, led by 2 points through the first and second sets before the Lady Falcons kicked it in gear to take control of the match.  Over aggressive blocking at the net led to net errors giving JB the advantage.  It wasn't long before Freeman took over with their quick offense.  Emily Lenners sparked the team to victory with 4 straight aces bring the Lady Falcons up 21-20 in the final set and they rolled onto victory.  Riley Dorn led the offense with 18 set assists.  Carley Remmers pounded  7 kills, Emily Lenners and Taylor Sugden 5 apiece, Marissa Haynes with 4 kills, and Alexis Holland had 2 kills.  Emily Lenners served 5 aces, and Carley Remmers had 3.  Digging up the ball were the following:  Alexis with 8, Riley Dorn with 6, Carley with 5, Taylor and Emily with 4, and Marissa with 2 digs.

Freeman defeats Diller-Odell - 25-15, 25-10
Not much could stop the Lady Falcons in their match against the Lady Griffins.  When Freeman was in control of their serve receive, the Lady Griffins were no match for the attack at the net.  Carley Remmers was impressive with 12 kills.  Juniors Emily Lenners and Alexis Holland had 5 kills.  Senior Marissa Haynes had 4 kills and fellow senior Taylor Sugden had 1.  Riley Dorn set up 23 set assists to lead the attackers.  Taylor and Carley led the team in digs with 7 and 6 respectively.   Emily Lenners put up 1.5 blocks making it difficult for the Lady Griffins.  Seeing playing time were Lauren Parde, Riley Page, and Tori Buhr.

Freeman defeats Friend - 25-19, 25-15
Tough serving and controlled passing were the keys to defeating the Lady Bulldogs.  However, with the 6 aces came more service errors, which is something the Freeman team will be working on for the future.  Friend has a few big hitters so getting the block lined up correctly was important for Freeman.  Emily Lenners had 2.5 ace blocks, and Carley Remmers and Marissa Haynes each had 1.5 ace blocks frustrating the Lady Bulldogs.  Defensively Alexis Holland had the most digs for the Lady Falcons with 7.  Riley Dorn put up 17 set assists.  Carley Remmers led the attack with 8 kills.  Emily Lenners added 5 kills, Marissa Haynes 4, Taylor Sugden 3, Alexis Holland 2, and Riley Dorn 1.  The balanced attack of the Falcons is tough to defend.  Riley, Taylor, and Emily each had 2 service aces and the rest of the team each had 1 ace.  Seeing playing time were also Riley Page and Cassidy Mason, who has a hamstring injury.  Freeman will play in the Friend invite next weekend.

Freeman defeats Johnson Brock - 25-8, 25-21
Senior Marissa Haynes led the attack on the Lady Eagles with 7 kills.  Teammate Emily Lenners had 6 kills, Carley Remmers added 5 kills, and Taylor Sugden and Alexis Holland each had 3 kills.  Defensively the Lady Falcons were covering the floor making it difficult for the Lady Eagles to score.  Marissa dug up 8 balls, Carley 6, Taylor and Alexis each had 5, Riley had 4, and Emily had 3 digs.  Carley Remmers jump serve was tough for JB with 3 aces.  Seeing playing time were also Katie Unvert, Lauren Parde, and Tori Buhr.

Freeman defeats Deshler - 25-14, 25-8
The Lady Falcons christened the new gym with their first volleyball match of the season against Deshler Thursday night.  The Lady Dragons were stymied by the offense of the Lady Falcons.  However, it took a the first half of the first set to get in their groove.  Focusing on their serve receive was key to the Lady Falcons running their offense.  Carley Remmers led with 8 kills, Taylor Sugden, Marissa Haynes, and Emily Lenners all had 4 kills, and Alexis Holland had 1 kill.  Riley Dorn set up 18 set assists to lead the attackers.  Taylor Sugden's serve was too much for the Lady Dragons with 5 aces and Marissa Haynes had 3 aces.  Emily Lenners and Carley Remmers each had 5 digs and Marissa Haynes had 4 digs.

Up next for the Lady Falcons of Freeman is Sterling at HOME on Tuesday night and AT Nebraska City Lourdes on Thursday.  The following weekend Freeman will attempt to win the Friend Invite for the 2nd year in a row.
