Two School Records Broken

Eight members of the Freeman Track Team traveled to Omaha Burke Stadium this weekend to compete in the State Track Meet.  The first event of the day was the 3200 meter relay and they got Freeman off to a great start.  The team of Cassidy Mason, Emily Lenners, Taylor Sugden, and Morgan Lenners ran a personal best time of 10:00.9, which broke the school record set back in 2007 by Denae Wolken, Bailey Buhr, Wendy Rogers, and Heather Holman at 10:08.6.  This excellent performance earned them fourth place medals!

Next up on the track was Marissa Haynes in the 100 meter dash, but unfortunately she did not advance to the finals.  Taylor Sugden and Marissa Haynes both competed in the 200 meter dash prelims and Taylor Sugden competed in the 400 meter dash prelims, but were unable to advance to Saturday’s finals in these events.
On Saturday morning, Kylie Trobee competed in the shot put and Carley Remmers in the high jump, but did not place.  Starting the afternoon session was Morgan Lenners in the 1600 meter run.  She went out hard and led the race early on, but was unable to hang on to the lead.  Morgan ran a career personal best time of 5:30.24, which set a new school record and earned her a fourth place medal.  Freeman also competed in the final event of the day, the 1600 meter relay.  Team members of Cassidy Mason, Mackenzie Ruskamp, Morgan Lenners, and Taylor Sugden competed hard, but did not medal.

While there were some disappointment for the Freeman girls, there were also some successes  and one thing that didn’t change was how proud the Freeman Coaches are of these athletes.  Win or lose these girls always give 100% and that is definitely something to be proud of.   Freeman will return five of the eight qualifiers next year and we look forward to more success.

It is with sadness that we say goodbye to three more Seniors.  Anna Harder and Lindsay Hottovy completed their season at the District Track meet and Mackenzie Ruskamp, Kylie Trobee and Morgan Lenners finished their Freeman career this weekend at the State Track Meet.  Kylie Trobee was a three time State qualifier.  She qualified her sophomore year in the 400 meter dash and her junior and senior years in the shot put.  Mackenzie Ruskamp was a two time state qualifier in the 1600 meter relay.  Morgan Lenners qualified her freshman year in the 800 and placed 5th and also placed 5th in the 1600 meter run.  Morgan had to sit out her sophomore year due to shoulder surgery, but came back strong her junior year and qualified in three events.  Morgan placed 6th in the 800 meter run and 7th in the 1600 meter run her junior year and was a member of the 1600 meter relay team.  Her Senior year, Morgan placed 4th in the 1600 meter run and the 3200 meter relay and was member of the 1600 meter relay team.  Morgan has earned 6 medals at the State Track meet in her three years and will compete in track for Nebraska Wesleyan next year.  All of these Seniors will be greatly missed next year.  Their leadership, work ethic and competitiveness will be hard to replace.  Thanks for all of the memories girls!
