State Speech qualifiers

1st Place

The Freeman Speech Team competed with nine other schools on Wednesday, March 13 at Humboldt placing sixteen events in district finals with ten events qualifying for state. Freeman was the district champion; second was captured by HTRS with Lourdes at third followed by Tri-County.

District champions are: Blake Lenners in Informative, Gerrit VanEngen in Entertainment, Jeff Wallman in Persuasive, and Anna Harder, Lindsay Hottovy, Shannon Koenig, Gerrit VanEngen, and Jeff Wallman in OID.

Also earning a trip to the state speech contest are Meghan Schellpeper second place in Entertainment; Courtney Buhr third in Informative, Anna Harder in Informative, Johnathan Neil and Hannah Neil in Duet, Jessica Larkins in Extemporaneous, and Emily Klein in Humorous Prose.

Placing fourth was Halley Dorn, Morgan Lenners, Chelsea Rapp, Courtney Buhr, and Blake Lenners in OID, Celia Timms in Poetry, Claire Richardson in Serious Prose, and Rachel Page in Humorous Prose. Finishing fifth was Elizabeth Milke in Serious Prose. Sixth place was awarded to Johnathan Neil in Extemporaneous.

The State Speech Contest competition will be on the University of Kearney campus. Classes C2, D1, and D2 will compete on Friday, March 22.
