HTRS Flirtin with Disaster Speech Meet

Thankfully the weather cleared for the speech contest at HTRS on February 25. The speechers competed in a fourteen-school meet in twenty events and medaled in seven.

Once again the speechers battled against Louisville, HTRS, and the Nebraska City Lourdes teams. Freeman earned the second place plaque behind the Louisville powerhouse. HTRS was third, followed by the Lourdes Central team at fourth and Johnson Brock at fifth.

Earning first place medals were Anna Harder, Lindsay Hottovy, Shannon Koenig, Jeff Wallman and Gerrit VanEngen in OID; Lindsay Hottovy and Shannon Koenig in Duet; Gerrit VanEngen in Entertainment; and Jeff Wallman in Persuasive; Medaling third was the OID team of Halley Dorn, Courtney Buhr, Blake Lenners, Morgan Lenners, and Chelsea Rapp. Placing fourth was Celia Timms in Poetry. Taking home fifth place was Emily Klein in Humorous.

Earning good points in preliminary rounds were Courtney Buhr in Informative, Anna Harder in Persuasive, and Rachel Page in Humorous.

The public is invited to listen to the team members perform their selections at Speeches a la Mode which will be held Tuesday, March 5th starting at seven o’clock.

The team will attend their last invitational Saturday in Waverly. District competition will be in Humboldt on Wednesday, March 13.
