Speechers First at MUDECAS

Nineteen members of the Freeman Speech Team competed in the MUDECAS meet on Saturday, January 26 at SCC Beatrice. The team members entered eighteen events and placed in thirteen events. Those placing in finals were Jeff Wallman first in Persuasive and OID, Blake Lenners first in Informative and second in OID, Anna Harder first in OID and fifth in Persuasive, Gerrit VanEngen first in OID and fourth in Entertainment, Lindsay Hottovy first in OID and second in Duet, Shannon Koenig first in OID and second in Duet, Courtney Buhr second in OID and third in Informative, Halley Dorn second in OID, Morgan Lenners second in OID, Chelsea Rapp second in OID, Johnathan Neil third in Extemp and fifth in Duet, Emily Klein third in Humorous, Jessica Larkins fourth in Extemp, Celia Timms fifth in Poetry, and Hannah Neil fifth in Duet. Medals were awarded to the top six in each event.

The team placed first out of fifteen teams participating in this contest. Also taking home a plaque were HTRS second and Bruning Davenport third. Scoring was tight with Meridian and Johnson-Brock closing in with final points.

Mrs. Jobman, coach for the Freeman Speechers was very proud of the progress the team made from the last meet. Many competitors were off script which enhanced performances. Speechers not breaking finals but placing well in their rounds were Meghan Schellpeper in Entertainment and Rachel Page in Humorous both just missing finals.

Freeman was the host of the MUDECAS event this year. Activity Director/Principal Bob Michl was crucial in organizing the event and helping the meet run smoothly. Nathan Dorn the team’s assistant coach was an integral of the process with the drop meeting, tabbing, and awards.

The team has twenty-four competitiors with several new members: Scott Adams, Jacob Benton, Matt Ideus, Katelyn Bohlmeyer, Emily Klein, Elizabeth Milke, and Rachel Page. The next meet is the Beatrice Invitational on Saturday, February 2.
