Morgan Lenners brings home two State Medals

Five members of the girls' track team competed in the State Track Meet held at Burke Stadium in Omaha.  Marissa Haynes competed in the prelims of the 200 meter dash, but her time of 27.492 did not advance her into the finals.  Kylie Trobee competed in the shot put, but unfortunately her toss of 35' 10.5" did not advance her into the final round.

Morgan Lenners competed in the 800 meter run and placed 6th with a time of 2:24.446.  This is the best 800 meters Morgan has ever run and she was only two tenths of a second off of the school record.  Morgan also had a seventh place finish in the 1600 meter run.  She completed the distance in 5:32.181.  Her effort in the mile was her best this year.

The girls also qualified in the 1600 meter relay.  Running at the State Meet were Marissa Haynes, Taylor Sugden, Mackenzie Ruskamp, and Morgan Lenners.  Their time of 4:14.594 was their personal best and they broke their own school record for the third time this season. They finished just out of the medals and finished in ninth place. Considering they were running a 4:27 about three weeks ago, we were very pleased with this time.  Kylie Trobee ran the third leg of the relay at Districts and helped to qualify the relay team and we could not have gone to State without her, but she was competing in the shot put at about the same time the relay was going to run and we didn't think it would give her enough time to concentrate on her shot put as well as warm up for the relay so Mackenzie Ruskamp ran her leg and did an excellent job.  These five girls have pushed each other all season long and it is because of the competitiveness among them that they were able to be as successful as they were.

Overall, Freeman had a very successful State Track meet!  There were a few disappointments, but all five of these girls will be back next season so we have a lot to look forward to next year.
