Freeman Girls Win Pioneer Conference Track Meet

The Freeman girls track team emerged as the Pioneer Conference track champion on Saturday. Coach Renken stated that this was really exciting for the girls.  "This has been a team goal from the beginning of the season.  We knew this was our last year in the Pioneer Conference and we wanted to go out on top."  The girls made some sacrifices.  They trained through last Tuesday's meet and didn't finish quite like we wanted to at Conestoga, but we knew that is what we had to do to be ready for Saturday. They are battling through injuries, sacrificing individual goals for team goals, and they work hard in practice even when no one is watching.  We had thirteen personal records broke on Saturday and even though they may not have placed, this is just as important for the success of our team. They know what it takes to be successful and I just can't say enough about this group of girls.  It is really rewarding as a coach to see the team accomplish their goals, but we have a few more goals to meet before the season ends.

We had several individual event champions.  Morgan Lenners won both the 800 meters and the 1600 meter runs.  Kylie Trobee won the shot put.  Marissa Haynes edged out a close win in the 200 meters and another highlight of the meet was the winning 1600 meter relay team, which also broke the school record.  The relay members were Marissa Haynes, Mackenzie Ruskamp, Kylie Trobee, and Morgan Lenners and the set the new record at 4:23.5.  The old record was set at 4:24.0 in 2007 by Jasmine Hagemeier, Baily Buhr, Stacy Goracke, and Denae Wolken.  Other individual results for Freeman were as follows:
