District Speech Champs

1st Place

The Freeman Speech Team competed with nine other schools on Tuesday, March 13 at Superior placing twelve events in district finals with nine events qualifying for state. Freeman was the district champion; only one point separated the Sutton team for second and Lourdes for third followed by HTRS and Johnson Brock.

District champions are: Abbey Klein in Humorous Prose, Alex Richardson in Entertainment, Madeline Clark and Johnathan Neil in Duet, and Anna Harder, Lindsay Hottovy, Shannon Koenig, Gerrit VanEngen, & Jeff Wallman in OID.

Also earning a trip to the state speech contest are Shannon Koenig and Abbey Klein second place in Duet; Madeline Clark third in Serious Prose, Courtney Buhr in Informative, Jeff Wallman in Persuasive, and Blake Lenners, Morgan Lenners, Halley Dorn, Courtney Buhr, and Chelsea Rapp in OID.

Placing fourth was Claire Richardson in Serious Prose. Finishing fifth was Celia Timms in Poetry. Sixth place was awarded to Meghan Schellpeper in Entertainment.

Earning superiors and adding to the team points were Madeline Clark (2), Abbey Klein (2), Alex Richardson, Courtney Buhr (2), Halley Dorn, Anna Harder , Lindsay Hottovy (2), Shannon Koenig (2), Blake Lenners (2), Morgan Lenners, Johnathan Neil, Sarah Page, Celia Timms, Gerrit VanEngen, Jeff Wallman (2), Claire Richardson, and Meghan Schellpeper.

The State Speech Contest competition will be on the University of Kearney campus.Classes C2, D1, and D2 will compete on Friday, March 23.
