"Flirting with Disaster Invite"

Thankfully no weather disaster presented itself for the speech contest at HTRS on February 25. The speechers competed against fourteen schools in twenty-three events and medaled thirteen in the champs finals and five in the honors finals.

Once again the speechers battled against Sacred Heart, HTRS, and the Nebraska City Lourdes teams. They also met good competition with Auburn and Louisville from earlier invitationals this season. Freeman earned the first place plaque, HTRS was second, and Sacred Heart tied for third with Nebraska City Lourdes.

In Champs Finals earning first place medals were Abbey Klein in Humorous, Jeff Wallman in Persuasive, and Anna Harder, Lindsay Hottovy, Shannon Koenig, Jeff Wallman and Gerrit VanEngen in OID. Second place medalists were Johnathan Neil in Extemp and Abbey Klein and Shannon Koenig in Duet. Third place went to Claire Richardson in Serious Prose. Placing fourth was Madeline Clark in Serious Prose and Blake Lenners in Informative. Taking home fifth place was Madeline Clark in Poetry and Abbey Klein in Informative. Receiving sixth place was Celia Timms in Poetry, Claire Richardson in Persuasive, and Meghan Shellpeper in Entertainment.

In Honors Finals coming in at seventh was Alex Richardson in Entertainment, Lindsay Hottovy in Humorous, and Jessica Larkins in Extemp. Medaling eighth was the OID team of Halley Dorn, Courtney Buhr, Blake Lenners, Morgan Lenners, and Chelsea Rapp. Placing ninth was Courtney Buhr in Informative.

Earning good points in preliminary rounds were Sarah Page in Poetry and Mackenzie Ruskamp in Entertainment.
